“I want a pollinator garden, but I don’t know what plants are appropriate.”
“How can I incorporate native plants into my yard?”
“Do I have to get rid of my azaleas if I want to have native plants?”
We hear these questions a lot. Interest in native plants that support local songbirds and insects is growing, but many homeowners don’t know where to begin. And yes, you can keep your azaleas!
We offer four services (please see below for details): Updated for 2025!
Onsite Garden Consultation and Coaching
Garden Design
Garden Installation (limited availability)
Garden Coaching
Onsite Consultation and Coaching - $150: We will walk your property with you and provide you with a baseline of your existing native and invasive plants. The conversation will help you determine a direction for your garden that meets your aesthetic, environmental and lifestyle goals. We will provide you with a Beneficial Garden Action Plan to help guide your garden journey. A typical visit takes approximately 60-90 minutes. Please note that site visits are limited to the City of Richmond and Henrico County, Virginia.
Garden Design - starting at $750 for small garden planting plans. Typical full yard plan ranges from $2,500 to $3,500 depending on the size and scope of the project. While the Beneficial Garden Action Plan will provide guidance to get started with beneficial gardening, sometimes a detailed garden design for specific areas - or an entire yard - will really help kick off a garden transformation. Garden designs might include a pollinator garden, a native plant meadow, a rain garden, a native plant shade garden, or even a raised bed kitchen garden. We provide a detailed graphic plan, a plant and materials list, and a list of the wildlife that the new garden will benefit. We also include a DIY cost estimate.
Garden Installation - We provide limited small garden installation services, and we can suggest like-minded small companies for installation of larger gardens and hardscapes.
Garden Coaching - $75 per hour - Even low-maintenance native plant gardens require seasonal maintenance and attention to keep the invasive plants from taking over. Working with the seasons and lifecycles of insects and birds is key to maintaining a garden that provides optimal benefits to wildlife. We teach you how to take care of your garden throughout the growing and dormant seasons.
